NavCamp update

NavCamp is now live on the web

NavCamp is live. Not “coming soon”, not “in beta testing”, not “request early access”. You open the link, you log in, you use it.

Go to app.navcamp.site in any browser on your phone and it works. Campus map, pathfinder, keke ride requests, wallet, live rider tracking — everything is there.

Why a web app first

The honest answer is that putting an app on the App Store costs $99 a year, and Apple does not negotiate that. Google Play is a one-time $25 which is more reasonable, but even that takes time to process and review.

Rather than make every student wait until the Play Store approves things and App Store money is sorted, the web version lets anyone at Veritas use it right now. iPhone, Android, it does not matter. Open Safari, open Chrome, go to the link.

On Android you can also add it to your home screen like a normal app — open Chrome, tap the three dots at the top right, and select “Add to Home screen”. It will sit on your home screen and open full screen just like a downloaded app.

On iPhone, open Safari (not Chrome), tap the share icon at the bottom, and select “Add to Home Screen”. Same result.

What about the Play Store

The Android version on the Play Store is in progress. When it drops, it will be the same app with the same account — nothing changes for your rides or wallet balance. It just gives students who prefer to download apps from the Play Store that option.

If you are already using the web version when the Play Store version releases, you do not need to switch. They are the same thing.

iPhone users

NavCamp is not on the App Store right now and there is no timeline for it. The web app works on iPhone browsers and you can add it to your home screen as described above. For anything that needs to work offline or in the background, iOS has limitations with web apps that native apps do not have, but for requesting rides, checking the map, and using the pathfinder, the web version is fully functional on iPhone.

How to log in

If you are a Veritas student, your account requires a verified matric number. Open the app, tap “Student”, and register with your matric number and a password. If your matric number is not yet in the system, reach out through the contact page.

Keke riders need to be added to the authorized riders list before they can register. If you are a rider on campus and want to be on the platform, reach out.

This took longer than expected to build properly — the campus map is fully drawn from QGIS data, the routing graph is real, and the ride matching system works in production. But it is out now.

Open it. Try it. If something does not work, tell us.
